Here’s a fun question for your Friday – how much plastic do you use every day? You might not think it’s a lot, but when you actually spend a few minutes taking stock, the tally can be surprising.
From the obvious things like plastic bags and takeaway coffee cups, to more sneaky things like pre-packaged vegetables and fruit from the grocery store – plastic is everywhere!
Plastic Free July
During July, the team at Avion came face-to-face with how much plastic infiltrates our daily lives. That’s because we participated in Plastic Free July – a challenge where you commit to not using any single-use plastic for the entire month.

Sound difficult? Oh, we’re not going to lie – it was.
But it’s only difficult because of how much we rely on single-use plastic, and that’s got to change if we want to reduce our plastic waste. As a team who’s passionate about sustainability and preserving this great planet of ours, that’s something we’re continually looking to get better at, both on a group and individual level. As you can see above, even our beloved Friday afternoon wine and snacks can be made single-use plastic free with a little planning.
Writing for the Plastic Free July challenge
As well as forgoing our favourite yoghurt treats and being more organised in bringing our reusable alternatives along on coffee runs and grocery shops, Avion was happy to partner with Plastic Free July to write their newsletters.
This was Plastic Free July’s biggest year yet, with more than 3.4 million people in 177 countries around the world taking up the challenge. We felt incredibly lucky to be able to combine our passions for communications and sustainability to help spread the Plastic Free July message to so many people.
