The future of work

Hi there,

Winter is coming, which means “our watch has ended” (a bit of humour for the GOT fans out there)! It also means the End of the Financial Year (EOFY) is just around the corner. How is your 2019 to-do list looking? Ahead of the EOFY, now is a great time to tick off a few projects and set goals for the future.

I had the pleasure of attending the Future Work Summit in Melbourne recently, an event focused on how to future-proof businesses and workers. Spoiler alert: the future is actually now. Technology and innovation are already transforming and challenging how we work and shaping the jobs of the future.

So how do we embrace this uncertainty and use these emerging conditions to find new opportunities?

Lifelong learning

According to the World Economic Forum, by next year more than one third of the skills we believe are essential for today’s workforce “will be comprised of skills that are not yet considered crucial to the job today.” A commitment to lifelong learning both from companies and individuals will be essential to navigate the future work environment and develop the skills required.

Check out Avion’s own Melinda Jennings as she presents an Academy Xi workshop on writing for emerging technology – Writing for UX, Voice Command and Chatbots.

Technology

Digital technology is transforming how we do business, business structures and the user experience. As organisations keep pace with the rise of technology in the workplace, it’s important we reframe the conversation around automation and artificial intelligence (AI). AI should be seen as a partner in the workplace, not a competitor. The challenge for businesses will be to make decisions that put people at the centre and technology at the service of people.

Here at Avion, we are content and project specialists who love emerging technology. We are passionate about helping companies navigate the future with clear, insightful and reflective content to create a brand, not just a business. Get in touch to learn more! For those harbour city dwellers, you can catch the Sydney Future Work Summit in October.

All the best,

Claire & the Avion team
